HOW TO PHOTO RAINBOW

Although rainbows are a frequent occurrence in nature, nevertheless, a series of certain events must occur simultaneously so that a seven-color arc forms in the sky. Firstly, there should be a lot of moisture in the air. This is usually possible on a rainy day or after a quick downpour. Secondly, the sun should be relative to the horizon. Scientists have found that if the sun is understood above 42 degrees above the horizon, then you can’t see a rainbow on earth. Thirdly, the part of the sky where the sun is located should be clear and cloudless, while the part of the sky where the rainbow may appear is likely to rain. When all these conditions are met, the sun’s rays are refracted and reflected from water droplets in the sky, creating an optical illusion of what is commonly called a rainbow.

And let the professionals with indulgence look at the enthusiasm of beginners when shooting a rainbow, but everyone understands that it is important not so much what you shoot, how much you shoot. Van Gogh, for example, generally painted sunflowers …

And if it happens to be in the right place, at the right time, every photographer should be armed with clear knowledge and understanding of photographing the process, so as not to be distracted, use a short period of time until the rainbow is visible and get photos that you yourself are pleased to see and others don’t it will be a shame to show.

Even the most boring landscape, on which there is a seven-lane arc, will look completely magical. But photographing a rainbow can be disappointing if you do not observe some conditions: starting from the right selection of photographic equipment, camera settings, and competent composition.

How to choose and configure photo equipment for shooting a rainbow?

Full or double rainbows cover a large area, so a wide-angle lens is best suited for such shooting. For example, 16-35 mm. Such a focal length allows you to capture the entire rainbow and get an interesting image with a competent composition. What to choose a lens for photographing the rainbow

As for the perfectly matched expocouple, it is worth stopping at the choice of aperture in the range from f / 8 or f / 11.

Another important point when shooting a rainbow is to use a polarizing filter. You only need to be careful and periodically look at the sky with your own eyes, and not through the camera’s viewfinder. It is likely that the natural brightness of the rainbow will be higher than it could be caught using a filter without violating the overall illumination of the sky and foreground.

Most often, the appearance of a rainbow occurs in low light conditions, which requires the photographer to open the aperture in order to get more light, but in order to work out objects in the foreground, it is necessary to close the aperture on the contrary. But in this case, photographic equipment manufacturers took care of the photographers and came up with tripods. Rainbow is a static object and therefore it is permissible to shoot it at slow shutter speeds, but with the aperture closed.

The next thing to remember during any photo shoot, of course, is composition. Even with such a banal photo shoot as shooting a rainbow, it is important to find an interesting story in which a colorful arc fits in the best way.

Try to find some lonely object that can be placed in the center of a graceful half-arc. In this case, the central placement will work just fine, as visually it will make the frame balanced and harmonious. You can also go down as close to the ground as possible and try to photograph the flowers against a rainbow. Do not forget about the basic rules of composition – use the rule of thirds and leading lines. In the photo below, for example, it can be seen that a lone sunflower balances the bright upper left corner, where a fragment of the rainbow appeared.

Where to look for a rainbow?

Although all the rainbow phenomena are formed in a similar way, you can notice some difference between them. For example, a rainbow may not have a full arc, but may go from edge to edge when all seven color spectra are clearly visible.

Often we observe such a phenomenon as double or even triple rainbows. What determines the appearance of a heavenly beauty? Like many natural phenomena – from light and weather conditions.

Natural rainbow phenomena occur only in the presence of moisture in the atmosphere and during the daytime, until the sun sets over the horizon. This means that in those days when most of the sky is covered with clouds and clouds, and in the free space the sun’s rays break through, you can try to find a position where a rainbow arc appears in the sky. How to take a photo of a rainbow

Of course, the search for a rainbow is a matter that requires patience, but if you know the conditions under which it occurs, you can find a place to settle down and wait for a good moment. Watch the position of the sun. The photographer should be with his back to the celestial body, and the sun should be located at an angle of about 40-45 degrees relative to the horizon.
